Travel Journals - Stretching Your Travel Budget and Reaping The Payoffs

The troubled economy affects all of us, particularly travelers. Now that the economy is recovering, experts in the travel industry tell us that more of us are on the move. As we find ourselves back on the road, sea, or in the air, many of us are still budget-conscious, looking for ways to make our dollar count now and later.

If you want to create true value on your next trip, be sure to include a travel journal. You may be tempted to bypass taking one, telling yourself that you can save money if you don't get one, but that is not the case.

A travel journal is virtually a savings account which will pay interest for the rest of your life.

You may wonder how buying a one will save you money. Here's how:

· It stretches your travel budget by extending your trip. When you are back at home, you can recapture that special moment and it will not cost you an additional cent. It's like having a free vacation without having to buy a ticket.

· Travel journals are the ultimate souvenir. Over time, souvenirs end up in the back of our closets or in the charity bin; yours is one treasure you will always keep.

· Vacations fly by so fast. Scrapbook journals keep the excitement alive forever.

· They are like trip insurance. When you record your memories, you are insuring they are captured forever.

When we are off on an adventure, we may tell ourselves that we will remember those moments, but sadly they will fade. If you have invested money in your hard-earned vacation, it is TRAGIC when the memories are lost. Don't let this happen to you. If you have a travel journal, your trip will never be lost!

Creative travel journals are especially good value for those on a tight budget. During the current economic downturn, a new word, as well as concept, has grown in popularity. The staycation ---where people stay at home or close to it, discovering the delights within and near their own area. Stop and think of why people travel from distant places to visit your city... those same points of interest which are perfect for your family to visit, too.

Even in boom times, weekend excursions, camping, family visits, and day trips are travel options. Watch out, though, as these short trips are particularly susceptible to being lost from our memory. We are more apt to record the big trips, overlooking the short visits to capture such as going to see grandparents, a class reunion, seeing an old friend, or just a Sunday outing in the car to someplace close by.

These events, these memories-in-the-making are rich, valuable to recall later, and deserve a page in a journal. These are even more prone to being forgotten.

You can start a "short trip" journal and watch your memories accumulate!

There are many types of creative travel journals to fit everyone's budget. However, don't be penny-wise but pound foolish. Yours will be a keepsake and definitely a legacy. Since it is something you will keep forever, aim for the highest quality you can afford. Different features influence the cost, so get one that is fun, easy and user-friendly. Check around for a new-style with features that make it extremely user-friendly during each day of your trip.

What you see offered is the ultimate gift to yourself, giving back for your entire lifetime the joys you experienced just once. All it takes is your opening your journal, reading a few brief descriptive words, and WOW!!! those memories will instantly come flooding back to all your senses.

What a surprising delight --- guaranteed to happen every time you open your travel journal.

And, now that you know there is a fun, easy way to capture your travel memories, go see a new-style, very er-friendly travel journal at http://www.TravelLegacy.net

How To Leave Behind Illness On Vacations

Vacations are a great way to leave behind the tensions and worries of everyday life. However, there are certain things that are beyond your control that have the capacity to ruin even the most wonderful of holiday plans. Illness is one of those things. With some precautions and planning, one can decrease the chances of falling ill or catching an infection during a vacation.

Washing your hands regularly and getting enough sleep and rest are the basic pre-requisites for staying healthy especially when you're away from home. Foreign locations, with new circumstances and environment, demand a healthy and vigilant you to fight off unwanted bacteria and infections. The food and air of foreign locations are new for our body systems, hence one need not to be tired or sleep-deprived as one is more likely to fall prey to illnesses under such circumstances. Another way to fight back diseases is by taking supplements to boost up your immune system. Add the intake of multivitamins and multi-minerals to your daily diet from at least two weeks before your travel and of course during your vacation. The immune boost needed to face the rough and tumble of travel in a healthy manner is provided by these supplements. Ensure that the food and supplements you start taking before your vacations provide you with enough good bacteria for a great immune system and excellent overall health.

Do find out about the prevailing illnesses in the area you plan to visit. Pay a visit to your doctor well in advance to get vaccinated against that particular disease or infection or at least get written the symptoms and prescriptions. Apart from going through the current health alerts in your destination, also find out about any weather-related health issue that you are likely to face in that country or state. Along with the prescribed medicines, also carry along several over the counter medicines that are needed for general issues like headache, common cold or fever. When traveling out of country, do not leave before getting a good travel health insurance for yourself. Make sure it covers medical care and evacuation in case you fall ill during your vacations. It would be wiser to purchase a policy from a third party rather than your cruise operator or airline. Carrying a travel medical kit, choosing food and drinks carefully, avoiding contact with animals and insects and washing hands often are just few of the precautions to be taken on a vacation ensures that your vacation is fun, lively and healthy!

Places to Go for a European Weekend Break

Sometimes just a few days in a different location, experiencing different sights, smells, and tastes as well as sleeping in a different bed, seeing different people, and even experiencing another culture can revitalise a person and give them a new perspective to come home to. Weekends go by fast and people should not pack so many things into the days that they feel overwhelmed and rushed. One or two activities per day enjoyed at a leisurely pace are more enjoyable. Of the many wonderful destinations in Europe for a weekend break, here are five:

Paris

This romantic location is known as the "City of Love." Travelers also go to Paris, France for the food and the arts. The Eiffel Tower and the River Seine are two points of interest. Trip planners can choose from a variety of tour packages such as guided tours of the Louvre Museum or hop-on and hop-off metro tours of the city. Additionally, the city can be seen by unhurried, self-guided walking tours.

Rome

Known for its history both secular and religious, people visit Rome, Italy for romance, to enjoy historical sites, and to experience the culture including the food, music and art. Visitors to the city might choose to explore the sites around Michelangelo's Piazza del Campidoglio like the two Capitoline Museums that are the oldest public galleries in the world, first opening in 1734 or visit the Colosseum and other archeological attractions throughout the city.

Barcelona

The thriving metropolis of Barcelona, Spain has an electric atmosphere. Known for its famous artist Gaudi, for tapas, beaches, and fiestas, the city with its Mediterranean coastal climate has many attractions and is a center of culture and commerce. The city has a variety of cafes, some featuring the local Catalonia cuisine. Visitors can examine Gaudi's architectural design at the Sagra Familia, a cathedral featuring multiple exterior sculptures. Then, his art at Park Guell is a fantastical miniature city with meandering pathways. The park is set on a hill overlooking Barcelona.

Amsterdam

People love to take a weekend in Holland's capital city for its art, shopping, and fashion, but the city is also a financial center. Visitors can take guided or self-touring bike rides about Amsterdam and see the sites via the most popular form of transportation in the metropolis. They can step into history at the clog-making museum celebrating traditional wooden clogs, buy tulips at Bloemenmarkt, see the De Gooyer windmill and other local windmills, and find wonderful cheese in the shops at Wegewijs.

East Anglia

This region got its name from the ancient East Angles, an Anglo-Saxon kingdom who brought the name from their original home in Angeln, Germany. Today, the area offers a wide variety of attractions to occupy visitors. Those visiting for weekend breaks can take long walks at High Ash Farm, have fun at the boardwalk at Southwold Pier, and tour the Time and Tide Museum. Another site to tour is Blickling Hall, a Jacobean mansion known as the home of Ann Boleyn.

How To Stay Safe From Crime In Thailand

Is Thailand safe? By many other big cities in the world, so long as you keep your common sense with you, you should not encounter any troubles in Thailand. The two most common crimes you will encounter are theft and pickpockets. This should not be surprising as the majority of the local Thai population live on less than US five dollars every day.

For the average tourist in Thailand, the most common worry is the rising number of conmen who dupe naive tourists into parting their cash.

As a preventive measure against theft, you should carry your valuables with you at all times. It is also possible to use a locker in the hotel room or your guesthouse to keep your belongings. The safest are that require your own padlock. Nonetheless there are some occasional reports of theft by hotel staff. Always padlock your luggage when leaving it in the hotel or a guesthouse room, as well as when taking it along on a public transport. Having your own padlock is also useful as an extra security measure for your room especially on the doors of beachfront bamboo huts.

There are also some reports of cases of theft resulting from overnight long-distance bus travel. However most of the reported incidents happen on cheap private run bus companies. These buses usually run from Bangkok's Thanon Khao San to places such as Surat Thani and the southern beach resorts. There are government designated stations that buses are supposed to depart from. So do not be tempted. It is best to go direct to such designated bus stations for your travels.

If you're not sure, you should also ask around to ascertain such buses.

When you're traveling on any bus or on the train, you should never keep your luggage out of sight if it contains any valuables. For your personal safety, you should be careful of accepting any food or drink from any fellow travelers you're not familiar with as it may be drugged.

Paranoiac as it may seems to be, the tourism Authority of Thailand has seen so many cases that it has to publish warnings about such crimes. Your drinks can also be spiked in bars and nightclubs, even so especially at popular beach full moon parties on Ko Pha Ngan. There have been reported cases of sexual assault on Western women. Some men have reported that Thai prostitutes may also spike their drinks so that they can steal from the victim's room.

There are very little cases of violent crime against tourists in Thailand. However low crime doesn't mean no crime. Recently, there have been reported cases of some serious attacks on Western women travellers. Every year, 14 million visitors travel to Thailand. Considering this, the statistics of such crimes are extremely low. Common sense should prevail for travelers which includes locking up the windows and doors at night. And you should not be traveling alone at night either in a taxi or a Tuk-tuk.

When in Bangkok, never risk using an unlicensed taxi. Stick to using the prominent license and metered taxis.

For women tourists, avoid spending time alone with a Thai monk. There have been reported cases of rapes and murders committed by people wearing the saffron robes. Not all men bearing the saffron robes uphold the high morality of monkhood and Buddhism.

How to Make Your Camera Vacation Ready

Being the family's go-to photographer, getting the camera vacation-ready is your responsibility. Is your camera able to capture those memorable shots on the summer road trip, cruise, or sightseeing expedition? Not every single photo that you will take this summer is going to be put on display in beautiful picture frames in your office for all of the planet to see, but making sure that your camera is ready ahead of time will insure that you are ready and able to complete the job, just in case. Follow these great tips to insure your camera is going to be vacation-ready.

• Make sure that you plan ahead. Doing all your leg work now, prior to deciding to depart on vacation, enables you to get a head start on great pictures. Are you aware of what exposure compensation is? Will you be informed about fill flash? If you'd like to see everything that the digital camera can achieve and what each function is, then the best spot for you to look is inside the user guide. After you read your manual you'll be able to test out the many functions that your style of camera has to offer. If you don't have time to look at it before your getaway, you may take the manual along with you and study it in your car or on the airplane.

• Look through travel guides. Know more about the area that you'll be vacationing in. Make yourself a makeshift photo shoot checklist, and place on it any landmark, particular site, or place which is of interest to you. This list will help you to be organized and enable you to not lose any of the key shots you are attempting to capture. Plan on getting a lot of shots that capture the flavor of the locals - including foods, crafts, events, festivals, plus more.

• Give your camera a solid "once over". Giving your camera a checkup increases the likelihood that you will end up having a number of great vacation photos. Snap some photos for a test, and review the photos on the computer. Ensure that colors appear natural and the pictures are sharp. Add fresh batteries to your camera bag or recharge your camera's internal battery. Make sure to pack your battery charger so that you won't miss out on any photo opportunities. If you are traveling internationally, make certain you pack a power source adaptor that works in the land in which you are visiting.

• Pack your additional lenses and accessories. Along with any extra lenses, make certain you remember to bring your lens adaptor. Be sure to also have a lens pen and lens cloth so as to clean your lens each day of your vacation. Make sure to pack your accessories, like a tripod, for example.

• Get any memory cards all set. Most cameras hold a limited number of shots in internal memory. You'll regret paying out the price that gift shops require to buy additional memory cards in the event you leave yours at your home. Clear your memory card by storing and then deleting any pictures that are in it so that it is ready for the trip. It might be worthwhile to invest in an extra memory card just in case one you have becomes filled - this can help you not to develop the need to delete any photos that you aren't positive that you want to.

• Think ahead about how you want to display your photos. A great way for vacation photographs is vacation-themed picture frames or frames that remind you of your getaway. For instance, if you're taking a vacation cruise, then a picture frame constructed from natural materials like bamboo or seashells would be a wonderful method to display your trip photos that will also increase the memories you've got of the vacation.

No matter if you happen to be headed across the country or across the state, adopting the above tips will make your trip photographs even more memorable.

Keeping in Touch With Loved Ones Abroad

When someone you love moves abroad, whether they've left to start a new and exciting job, or have just decided to go travelling for a little bit, it can be difficult to keep in touch with them, as you will both be busy living your lives. But just because a close friend or relative is in another country doesn't mean that you can't keep in regular contact, and with so many gadgets, services and other technological advances becoming available every day, it's never been easier to keep in touch with the ones you love.

One of the quickest ways of getting hold of someone in another country is of course to call them, and if they have a landline set up in their home, then this is simple enough, if not very expensive. As mobile are even more expensive to call in another country, many people have started using the internet to make calls through programmes like Skype. This allows users to make and receive calls no matter where they are in the world, and because the programme can assign them a local number, it means that the cost of calls won't be too high.

The internet can also used in other ways to keep in touch with the people that matter the most. Fir example, instant messaging services, such as MSN, Skype and Facebook chat, allow user to type messages to one another. While this is considerably less expensive than a phone call, it means it can take a little longer to talk to everyone, however, this approach does work for a lot of people.

If you like writing, and want to write something a little more substantial than an instant message, then an email will allow you to pour out your heart to you nearest and dearest without interruption. The benefit of emails is that they arrive in their intended recipient's inbox straight away, which means that there isn't any delay in your correspondence getting to them. However, sometimes a handwritten letter is what you and your loved one need, because it's just that little bit more personal. With a litter, you'll also be able to send them hard copies of photographs, which can sometimes make all the difference to someone who's feeling a little bit homesick. If their birthday or another big celebration like Christmas is coming up, why not send them a parcel from home, filled with letters from all their friends, family, plus photos, clothes, and maybe a few treats such as their certain type of drink or chocolate bar? Sending parcels to Europe and elsewhere often works out to be a lot cheaper than you might think, so look into sending them a care package, because it will remind them of how much they are loved and missed by the people that they care about.

A big move to another country is no excuse for not keeping in touch, and as these examples prove, it can be a lot easier and cheaper than you might actually think. So now there is no excuse not to staying in regular contact.

How to Prepare for a Business Trip

Top notch professionals of today have to travel continuously for some business purpose or the other. Be it domestic travel or international, a lot of planning and fore thinking is required to plan and pack for business travel. In case your trip is company sponsored, you have no cheap flights to book and no affordable hotels to look for; hence you can apply all your time and mind to be well prepared for your travel.

With the knowledge about where you are going and for what in the background, begin packing only the essentials as in case of business travel, less is always more. All clothing shall be interchangeable, as well as appropriate for business meets and setting. Do not forget to carry properly coordinated clothes and shoes, for both business meetings and unofficial outings. Pack small size toiletries and carry zipped plastic bags to bring back wet clothes if any. Pack a briefcase or bag for business purpose that should contain all your important documents, work material and itinerary. This briefcase can also be used for carrying your medications and digital camera.

When it comes to an appropriate business attire to wear while traveling, a comfortable business suit is the best bet. Wear comfortable business shoes, especially slip ons that can speed time at the security check. Make sure that you wear wrinkle-free trousers to avoid arriving at your destination with creased clothes. Wearing a sport coat while traveling for business purpose serves varied purposes. Apart from having multiple pockets to store documents, sport coat is acceptable in all situations, business or casual.

There are several warnings to be considered by all travelers, irrespective of the purpose of visit. Do keep a tab on any official warnings issued by the government of the country you intend to visit. Learn about the local cultures and customs of the destination in case of foreign travel. Also, be aware of travel restrictions imposed by various airlines on several items like fluids and pocket knives.

Let's get to little serious stuff now. Work ahead of time and do not wait till the last few days when it comes to preparing for your work. Since business trips are not vacations, you are likely to keep busy with colleagues, meetings and official work with little time left for exploring the city, outings or personal dinners. Consider this as a great opportunity to bond with your peers and build a long lasting rapport. Check details of your cheap flight thoroughly and reach the airport before time to start your journey on a hassle-free and comfortable note. Bon Voyage!

Sightseeing 101: Taking the Best Vacation Photos Ever

Sightseeing can be fun any time of year, but summertime is often a particularly popular time for you to go see the sights and capture memories which are worthy of preserving with the beautiful picture frames. Virtually every vacation involves sightseeing. Whether you're planning an international adventure or just taking a trip locally, you will recognize that you can find numerous creative and different approaches to capture the real essence of your destination. Should you try these tips you'll be able to capture wonderful memories that can last you your entire life:

• Take photos of signs. Not only will photographs of signs help you to remember where you went, they also make terrific introductions to a photo slide show, scrapbook project, or photo album.

• If somebody else does it, it might be a good idea. Look closely at what other people are taking pictures of, and follow their lead. That tourist alongside you may have just found an ideal shot of the view in front of you. Find some inspiration in what others are doing.

• Take some photographs of people's feet. If you find interesting things on the ground, like a sign, a landmark seal, or possibly a drain cover that's particularly interesting or inscribed in some manner, keep your feet within the shot. This will be a great shot that helps you to recall standing there at that moment.

• Take a surreal shot of the friends that you are going with by going on ahead of them and shooting backwards.

• Pose with statues and check out reflective surfaces that you can capture your image in. You can have a lot of fun taking photos while sightseeing, and the more amusing the shot, the more memorable it's going to be. For example, strike exactly the same pose as the statue, or provide it with a big hug and a "kiss".

• Capture details with your photos. Sometimes it will be the small details which will create a one-of-a-kind picture good enough to display in picture frames on the desktop. Take close-ups and zoom in on those tiny things which you may not notice otherwise. Take pictures of several of the extra details which can help tell your sightseeing story, including maps, menus, or lesser know landmarks.

• Try some shots from non traditional angles. By way of example, try shooting a tall building from a straight up angle, or take a picture with the view that you see looking down from a lighthouse. When you frame a landmark in a unique manner, it can help the picture of the Eiffel Tower that you take stand out from the rest of the photos which have been snapped since it was built.

• Make certain that your photography duties don't keep you from showing up in some photos, as well. You must give others a chance to snap lots of pictures of you and also your group together. One way to stay in the photos with others is to obtain a lever cord and tripod to help you be in the photographs rather than count on somebody else to take them.

• Make sure you are prepared. Before your sightseeing expedition, make sure that you are aware of how your camera and equipment operates, and read your user guide so that you understand every one of the features. It is a good idea to bring along additional batteries in addition to one or two extra memory cards so that you get as many shots as you desire and can hold off until you can get back home to sort through them.

• Once home, select picture frames which have the same feel as the sightseeing expedition. For instance, select a seashell or bamboo frame for shots of your beach vacation.

If you try these tips, you are able to move from being an amateur photographer to being an old pro in no time at all!

nderstanding The Disciplines Of Mixed Martial Arts

Common Disciplines in MMA

Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is a very aggressive and skillful complete body combat sport that allows fighters from different fighting schools and trainings to combine together their skills and prove their mettle in the fighting rounds. It is often called barbaric as well. But MMA allows one person to inculcate in himself the best of qualities offered by each sport and therefore it is often considered better than individual sports.

The traditional martial arts aim at improving particular aspects and not provide a complete a package as one can have through Mixed Martial Arts or MMA. The techniques of grappling and striking are mainly used in MMA but it also develops other aspects of a person. A detailed list of disciplines of MMA is discussed in the preceding paragraphs.

The very first discipline of fighting included in the MMA training is wrestling. Wrestling is most widely used in Mixed Martial Arts or MMA. Wrestling helps a fighter to take down his opponent with great strength and impeccable technique. It is useful in both the conditions i.e. when the fight is happening while standing and when the fight has hit the ground. Wrestling teaches the fighters some explosive movements and trains them to have a good stamina.

The second discipline of fighting used in MMA and its training is the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This technique became popular due to Royce Gracie in 1990 when he won the first, second and the fourth Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The movie 'Never Back Down' showcases this talent or fighting technique very beautifully. This technique became so popular because Royce could defeat people practicing wrestling, boxing, judo and all other forms of Asian, American, Chinese and Japanese fighting techniques.

The next technique used in MMA is the art of Catch Wrestling. I don't really know much about it except that it is from the English mainland and can be seen to have influence from the Indian style wrestling called 'kushti' and Japanese style shoot wrestling. Many fighters have used it to get agile, flexible and learn the fatal deadlock techniques.

The other techniques used in the MMA training are those of Judo and Karate. In judo the art of ground grappling or ne-waza and the art of standing grappling or tachi-waza is used prominently in mixed martial arts. It provides the fighter the enormous strength and required precision for the deadlock to happen so that the opponent taps out. Karate being the father for kick boxing provides strength to the fighters legs and adds up better workability and mobility to the fighter's style of fighting.

The last discipline that is used to increase the striking and clinching techniques of fighters in MMA is the Thai form of boxing called Muay Thai. It enables the fighter to develop enormous strength and agility in movement with high concentration levels so as to increase the power of the fighter. Frisbee Golf: What You Need to Play

There are some games that have really stood the test of time, and if you enjoy spending time outside, you will be pleased to know that Frisbee golf is one of these classic yet still popular games. You can grab a friend or two and head to your local course. While these courses are more difficult to find than, say, a tennis court or a basketball court these days, you can still find several in most major towns. If you have plenty of space available, you can also set up your own course. For instance, a wide open field at a park would work great. There are a few other things you will need on hand to play. Here's what you need to know:

Baskets. When you play the game of Frisbee golf, your goal is to aim these Frisbee-like disks into a basket by tossing the disks through the air in the same way you would a Frisbee. Yet the game is also like golf in that you will have 18 different baskets as well as a tee-off point for each one. If you find an established course, the baskets should already be in place, but if you make your own course, or if you simply want to practice a bit on your own, you will need at least one basket on hand. As you shop, look for a foldable and lightweight basket for easy portability.

Disks. The disks are an important part of Frisbee golf. You may think you just need one disk, but the fact is that this game is often played in wooded areas and those disks do tend to get lost. Plus, many people will leave one disk down as their place marker while they toss another around. For added fun, look for the glow-in-the-dark varieties or for a package that continues multiple colors. For added convenience, look for a set that comes with a handy carrying bag. Keep in mind that you will also benefit from a bag that has space for your keys, a drink, and maybe even your cell phone, too.

Score Sheets. Now, score sheets are not a requirement. If you know what you are doing, you can keep tally of your own score on any old piece of paper. Many courses even provide you with their own version of a tally sheet that includes the par for each hole. Yet sometimes you will find that there is benefit in carrying around a booklet of blank score sheets for any games that may come up, as well as for those games where you create your own holes.

New Challenge. Frisbee golf is truly one of those fun, classic games that are great for kids and adults alike to play. It is a game of athleticism, challenge, and skill, too. Take time today to get the gear you need for the game, and look around for a course near your home to get started playing. This will likely turn into an activity that you and your family all love to do together!

Frisbee golf is a great popular past time that is an excellent source of exercise and fun for the entire family regardless of age!

What You Should Know About Acceleration Mechanics

The ability to accelerate with speed and power is perhaps the most important skill that an athlete can posses. Athletes in most sports need to be able to run as fast as possible, and reach their maximum speed as quickly as possible.

From blasting off the line in football, to winning the ball in soccer, to launching out of the blocks in track; each of these athletic movements need to be performed as efficiently as possible to generate speed as rapidly as possible.

With this in mind, drills for running fast should form a major part of any training regime. However, too many coaches and athletes embark upon their training without a complete understanding of the mechanics of acceleration. In this short article I'd like to help remedy this by covering the six elements of acceleration mechanics.

This will give you a good base of knowledge on which to perform or design your acceleration training and give your athletes an edge their competitors may lack.

1. Stride length (short to long).

When accelerating off the line (or from any position), an athletes stride should progress from short to long. Speed can be improved my increasing stride length or stride frequency (most experts on speed training agree that increasing stride length is the best way to do it).

2. Ground contact time (long to short).

Ground Contact Time describes the amount of time each foot spends on the ground. It is longest at the beginning of the exertion as the body overcomes inertia (the weight of the body working against gravity). It's shortest when the body is in full flight and the feet are moving at maximum speed.

3. Shin-to-ground angle (small to large).

The angle of the shin will determine how much force is applied to the ground and the projection angle the athlete will launch from (an approximate 45 degree angle is ideal). As the athlete accelerates, the shin angle opens up and increases as he/she reaches maximum velocity.

4. Velocity (slow to fast).

Velocity describes both the speed and direction in which the body is moving. As the athlete accelerates, the rate and distance increases with the duration of the movement.

5. Stride frequency (slow to fast).

As with ground contact time, stride frequency starts off 'slower' and increases until it reaches its optimal level at maximum speed.

6. Heel recovery (low to high).

Heels should recover quickly, with backside mechanics (movements behind the centre of mass) and large variations of motion kept to a minimum.

These six elements of acceleration mechanics will give you and your athletes the proper foundation of knowledge on which to base your speed training. Proper execution of technique is everything; you will now have a better idea of where to spot and correct faults in your athlete's technique. This will have them performing their training drills better with a consequent improvement in speed.

The Advantage Of Adidas Y3 Trainers For Sport

Adidas Y3 trainers, or simply Y3 trainers as they're often called, is the sports fashion range of footwear established in the early 1990s through the collaboration between Adidas, the sporting wear giant, and Yohji Yamamoto, one of Japan's leading fashion designers. This fusion of sports technology and designer fashion was immediately successful, and twenty years on it remains a popular formula.

The range of Adidas Y3 trainers available today demonstrates clearly how important this collaboration is and how successful. Whether you're into men's fashion and designer clothing or you're in to footwear designed to enhance performance and provide real benefits to whichever sport you're into, Y3 has much to offer.

For those who enjoy wearing fashion clothing the Y3 trainer offers a unique look that's immediately distinctive. Sporting the traditional three stripes which makes up the Adidas logo (which is where the '3' comes from in the Y3 brand, the 'Y' standing for 'Yamamoto') as well as a sleek, streamlined look and an enormous amount of attention to detail, they are one of the most sought after leisure wear items. But unusually these same trainers are much sought after by those at the top of their game in sporting activities as diverse as tennis and boxing, or running and martial arts.

Each sport places a unique combination of demands on the feet, whether that be twisting, running, bouncing, cushioning, gripping or support to the leg. Having the right kind of footwear can be crucial, not just in helping to provide comfort and minimise damage or strain, but in offering real advantages. For example, if you think about a fairly simple and straightforward sport such as running, the right kind of trainer can offer two key benefits.

As the heal strikes the ground on each stride an enormous force is generated and transferred from the foot all the way up the leg, passing through the ankle joint and the knee joint, as well as imparting a shock wave through the hips, up the back and even as far as the neck. This repetitive shock can cause damage to the joints, muscles and tendons, and so the right kind of footwear for runners offers a cushioning effect at the heal which helps to absorb some of the force, acting almost like a car's shock absorber.

Dampening the force from the heal strike can make a huge difference, but that's not the only benefit which Adidas Y3 trainers for runners can offer. Another benefit offered is a springy, bouncy material applied to the front of the foot, around the ball of the foot. This very bouncy material acts like a sort of spring, so that as you push off with the ball of your foot the trainer actually helps enhance that push, literally putting a spring in your step which helps to maximise the power of each stride.

This combination of materials and combination of benefits is unique to the needs of a runner, and the full range of Adidas Y3 trainers offer unique combinations of benefits like these across a whole range of different sports and sporting activities. Some sports such as boxing need a great deal of ankle support, and the ability to twist and turn lightly and easily on the ball of your foot. Other sports such as martial arts often require much more grip for stability. Whatever sport you're into, if you're looking for an advantage which will help maximise your performance as well as offering comfort and a look that's unmistakably modern and stylish then Adidas Y3 trainers are definitely work a look.

Enjoy Playing Tetherball

Enjoying some fun in the sun isn't a generational thing - whether you were born in the 50's or since the turn of the millennium, spending time playing games outside has remained a constant. What has not remained a constant, however, is the games that are enjoyed outdoors. So how have outdoor games changed?

Then

"Then" is a general term, but for the most part we'll accept "then" as referring to some time before 1975-1980. As for more typical outdoor games of the time, horseshoes and croquet are that games that always leap to mind and are regularly shown in images and video that's supposed to evoke thoughts and sentimentality of what's perceived as a "simpler" time.

Also popular games of the time were badminton and volleyball. While volleyball continues to be popular, badminton is definitely a game that has seen a level of decline in recent years. Speaking of recent years, what qualifies as popular outdoor games in the "now"?

Now

Much like "then", "now" is a general term, but for now we'll accept that "now" is pretty much any time after 1990. In the "now" we're seeing a trend of both new games and classic games from before "then" reemerging.

Bounce houses have been around for years, but it's only recently that instead of being forced to play in one at a county fair or rent one that you could own one yourself for a reasonable price. These are a great favorite amongst young children, and the newer ones even have optional water features to make them even more fun in the summer.

Bean bag toss games, commonly referred to as cornhole, are increasingly popular, especially during group events like cook-outs and tailgating parties. The ease of transport and the small learning curve makes this an attractive game for players of all age groups.

A classic game that's been seeing a resurgence is bocce ball. Developed in its current form in Italy, the game has spread through Europe and has finally made its way to US shores. With elements of bowling and shuffleboard, Bocce requires more planning and strategy than your standard lawn game, making it appealing to those that like in-depth games.

Then vs Now

Neither time had the "better" games, and in another 20 years it's fair to assume that the landscape of casual outdoor games and entertainment will change even more, but no matter what's popular, it's always popular to be outside enjoying fun and games with friends and family.

Harrison Bishop is an avid gamer with a love of both indoor and outdoor games, including bean bag toss games and bocce ball. For his games Harrison visits Sportcraft, which can be found online at: Sportcraft.com.

It Is Possible for an Air Gun to Have More Than One Magic Pellet

To have accuracy with an air gun, you must balance the weight of the pellet to the air pressure that is capable of being produced by the air gun that you are shooting. If the weight of the pellet is too heavy, there will be inaccuracy because there is not enough air pressure to keep the pellet going in a straight line. Conversely, if the weight of the pellet is too light, there will be inaccuracy because there will be too much air pressure to keep the pellet going directly to the intended target. Once you find the pellet weight that balances against the air pressure provided, you will have the "magic" pellet; and you will not only hit your target with predictable accuracy, but you will also find that the penetration is deeper; that is, it will hit harder; and have more knock-down power.

To have authoritative hitting power is desirable for hunting, but for target practice it is only necessary to have enough power to penetrate a piece of cardboard. Most of the high-end 10-meter competition air guns shoot lightweight pellets; yet their air reservoirs can be filled to 3,000 psi. So that they can shoot the lighter pellets, these air guns are equipped with internal air regulators to lower the "working" pressure down to as low as 1,100 psi. By increasing or decreasing the air pressure for a given pellet, it is possible to dial in the accuracy by balancing the pellet weight to the pressure made available.

Some time ago, I was testing a high power air rifle that could be filled to 3,000 psi. In order to achieve accuracy, I had to shoot the heaviest pellet available in the air rifle's caliber in order to balance the pellet weight to the air pressure out put. All other lighter pellet weights in that caliber were not accurate because 3,000 psi was too much air pressure present for them.

Since the air rifle was not equipped with an internal regulator, I gave it an external regulator by putting one in between the air rifle and my air source: a 4500 psi carbon fiber tank. Using this method, I could keep a constant selected pressure at the air rifle without stopping to fill it.

Taking the lightest weight pellet that I had tested for the air rifle's caliber, I began feathering down the pressure a little at a time to observe that the accuracy was beginning to come closer and closer. I also "dry-fired" the air rifle several times in between shot sequence to let the pressure settle at each new lower pressure setting.

Once I came to the pressure that seemed to give me the most accuracy with the lightest weight pellet, I lowered the pressure a little more to be sure and the accuracy began to deteriorate. Then, I brought the pressure back up to point where I could predict accuracy with the lightest pellet. Not only did I have another magic pellet, but also I now had a "magic" air pressure.

In order to produce reliable tests, I always lock down the air gun in a gun vise that has the ability to slide back to absorb any recoil produced by the air gun. The slides are simple drawer slides that ride on internal ball bearings for a near frictionless glide. Also a solenoid is used to pull the trigger so that the air gun is isolated to its actual performance and remains untouched by human hands or influence.

I repeated the process of increasing or decreasing the pressure of air for the remaining pellet weights in between the heaviest pellet and the lightest pellet that could be fired in the same air rifle. When I finished with the tests, I had several magic pellets along with several corresponding magic air pressures.

You will be able to find several magic pellets only for air guns that are PCP or pre-charged pneumatic air guns because their air pressure can be adjusted up or down by various methods. On the other hand, spring-piston air guns have only one level of pressure produced by a spring that must be cocked before each shot and no means of adding any pressure from an external source.

In summary, if you experience inaccuracy with your PCP air gun, instead of blaming the pellet try balancing the pellet's weight to different pressure levels until the pellet becomes indeed another magic pellet.

5 Ways to Superior Speed

What athlete doesn't want to run faster? Whether you're a sprinter or a line backer, every sportsman or woman wants those extra yards/seconds. But what's the best way to do it? There are of course many ways, but I've assembled here what I believe are five often overlooked tips to run faster and shave precious seconds off those all-important sprint times.

1. Keep your form.

Many athletes lose form when they're gunning all-out for speed - especially in the heat of the moment in competitive sports. The key is to develop the presence of mind to keep your form during training so that good form becomes automatic - even in the most stressful, distracting competitive encounters.

2. Lean the right way.

Another very common running mistake: leaning back. Often, a sprinting athlete will start off well only to begin leaning back and in so doing lose speed. If you lean back when running your legs will be in front of you rather than behind you where they are best placed to propel you forward. Always remember to lean into your sprint with your head held straight.

3. Relax!

Many athletes let aggression get the better of them; their so pumped up with the desire to win, to pummel their opponents, that they allow tension to permeate their bodies. This isn't good. A tense body will tire more easily, energy flow will be impaired and so will form. When you run, of course you should go for it, but do so with your body as relaxed as possible.

4. Breath for speed.

Your muscles will provide you with speed, but your muscles require energy. Where do they get their energy from? From the oxygen in your blood. And where does that come from? Your breathing. If you get more oxygen into your blood, you will have more energy available for your muscles - and therefore more speed.

If you add some fast breathing drills to your training routine you can train yourself to suck in more oxygen and give yourself an edge over your less-well breathing opponents. Try this: breath in and out rapidly for 30 seconds - do this for 5-7 sets and build up to 1 minute.

5. Massage those muscles.

Regular massage helps with mobility and flexibility of the muscles. It also increases blood flow to them, and relaxes them. In addition, it can speed up recovery from a hard session or race very significantly - even by as much as 50%. A good massage therapist can also identify problem areas before they become injuries.

All of us are unique, and no one formula will work for everyone. It also takes time - years even - to figure out what works best for us. The important thing is that you keep an open mind, try new things, and learn from experience. Don't take anyone's opinion as the last word on anything - hey, even the experts can get it wrong!

Let your training routine evolve and just enjoy the process of becoming a better, stronger - and faster - athlete.

If you are tired of letting your competition blow by you then you will love what I have here for you today. Visit http://www.SecretstoSpeed.com today and you will be amazed at the speed secrets and techniques that you will receive for free! Helmet Laws - Why Isn't There a Single Countrywide Helmet Law?

When we do our parkour training, we want to mix up different styles of workouts and exercises.

That way the training is always changing and keeps your muscles guessing. You don't let the exercises get dull and boring and you see fast muscle building results.

Here is an example of one parkour training drill I personally use in my parkour workouts.

QM-PRECISION

This is a quick and simple parkour drill that targets the legs, core, and upper body. So you get a full body workout in a short period of time. This drill also develops your precision jump(one of the most important moves in parkour).

You will also get fatigued during this drill so you will practice your precisions under pressure. So just like a "real life" situation when you might have to use parkour when you have expensed a lot of energy due to adrenaline or stress.

You are going to train for this critical moment.

QM is a quadrapedal movement - an exercise not seen often but used a lot with parkour training. It's one of the best full-body exercises that targets all muscle groups in one motion.

You are going to walk on all fours, using your feet and hands. Make sure to keep your back straight and hands and feet inline. Always use good form while doing this parkour exercise so you don't create bad habits or pull a muscle.

We are going to start out with 50 quick QM steps. So move very fast, using good form. If you need to slow down to use good form, do so. You can QM backwards and forwards if you're in a tight space.

Then immediately after you finish 50 QM steps go directly into precision jumps.

Precision Jumps - The name pretty much says it all. Precision jumps are where you jump with precision. You want to jump and stick the landing where ever your target landing area is.

You don't need much to work precision jumps. You can use a side walk lines, curbs, 2 strips of tape, anything where you jump from one specific place to another.

The distance of the jump depends on what your comfortable doing. Pick a distance that you can jump to that isn't too easy but doesn't take all your effort either. I go with about a 7-8ft. distance.

Now when you jump, land as soft as you can on your toes and absorb with your legs. Make sure not to bend past 90 degrees in the knees. Try to stick your landing and not fall to one side or the other. Turn and jump back.

Do this 25 times. Then go directly back to QM. Repeat for 4 rounds.

That's a short parkour training workout you can start doing RIGHT NOW.

Try it out and tune it to your body and athletic ability. Some of us might need to start out with 30 QM steps and 10 precisions or 100 QM steps and 30 precisions. Start building your parkour base!

If you want to learn how to run up 8ft walls, leap across 12ft gaps, vault over rails, fly through your environment, and take drops up to 10ft with the same amount of impact as a normal person doing a jumping jack,

Then check out my "FREE" web site and blog!

You'll get tons of free stuff on there! 10 free videos to help you learn how to parkour and a month of free articles and videos to help get you started in parkour.

My twin brother and I have been training parkour since 2004. Parkour has dramatically changed our lives mentally and physically. It's all we do now and we love teaching others!

How To Parkour: Cut Your Parkour Training In Half While Getting Twice The Workout

Let's face it, there's no substitute for speed...

Whether your aim is to boost your team's morale, turn a losing game around, discourage an opponent, or just run fast for the sheer thrill of it, having searing speed is a major advantage. The following 4 tips to run faster are terrific - and fairly easy - ways for anyone to become quicker in their chosen sport:

1. Increase Your Strike Rate

By increasing your strike rate (the number of times your foot hits the ground), you'll strengthen your muscles. With stronger leg muscles you'll be able to increase your stride length, and thus be able to run faster.

To increase your strike rate, try sprinting for about 30 seconds and count every time your right foot hits the ground. Recover by jogging for a minute or so then run for another 30 seconds; this time, try to increase your count by one. Repeat this sequence several times, each time trying to add another step.

2. Run with faster runners.

Try hooking up with runners who are faster than you are. Pay attention to their form: how do they move? How do they position their heads? Their shoulders? How do they use their arms? How do their legs move?

You can learn a lot by observing faster, more accomplished runners. You can also try running with them and trying to match their pace. As you do this, you'll tend to find your own rhythm and pace will begin to match theirs. And guess what? You'll start to run faster.

3. Add a hill run to your routine.

A key component of running faster is getting off the line as quick as possible. By sprinting up an incline, you can develop that explosive power needed to make a fast start. Choose an incline of around 30 degrees, and focus on accelerating as hard as you can for the first few meters. Since you're developing acceleration, keep the distance short (to around 10-15 meters). Repeat as needed, and be sure to take a good rest between each sprint.

4. Watch out for tension.

Tension wastes energy - energy that could driving you forward. A tense muscle (group) is more likely to become tired and sore, and thus become more prone to inflammation and injury. Watch out for tension in your body - particularly your hands, arms, shoulders, and neck. If you do feel tension creeping in, take a few moments to shake it out, or do some stretching. Make no mistake, by following these tips, you can improve your speed - possibly quite substantially. So many people fall into the trap of thinking that their capacity for speed is dictated purely by genetics. Yes, some people are naturally gifted - but that doesn't mean there's no hope for the rest of us.

Anyone can develop greater speed: all it takes is the right training regime and some good old fashioned practice. Happy running!

When And Where To Go Backpacking

he alternative to round robin is destination hiking. Where you either make arrangements for or previously have left a car at your destination. I have never found anyone who would drive me to hike or drive me from a pre arranged parking area to my hiking entry area. So for me round robin backpacking has been my primary source of getting on and off the trail.

Once you have resolved one of the above issues you need to choose a time you like to backpack. I do most of my backpacking from mid October to mid April. The party hikers are pretty hunched hibernating in front of a TV looking out at the cold. I would recommend that in the beginning you go in moderate weather until you gather the experience to go at backpacking in colder weather.

So now we have determined the when to backpack, let's look at where to backpack. I now live in the middle Atlantic area of the USA. In less than 45 minutes from my home I can be backpacking on a state or national park trail. No matter where I have lived I have never been at a loss for backpacking trails.

In the mid - Atlantic there are:

The Appalachian Trail - with many entry points, lots of good maps and plenty of resources, i.e. shelters, fire pits and water.

The Chesapeake And Ohio Canal Footpath - An excellent beginner backpacking area. Very scenic and very flat. It was the old tow path for the mules who hauled the barges up and down the Potomac in the pre railroad days. It does rise in altitude but very slowly and it is smooth.

Shenandoah National Park - Along with the George Washington National Park and excellent camping area. Both have trails that will suit the beginner and the experienced backpacker. From extended wilderness camping to family day hikes both of these facilities excel.

For the above you can go on-line and order maps and guides that can be useful in getting you started backpacking with the goal of eventually solo backpacking.

There are also many State Parks that have hiking and camping facilities.

I don't believe there is anywhere in the USA that you can be more than 1 hour drive away from a good backpacking trail.

You might possibly be to young to begin backpacking solo. But, that doesn't preclude backpacking as a family form of recreation. I need to tell you though that you will never be to old to enjoy backpacking. Begin at a young age and this solo backpacking will get in your blood. You will find yourself sitting around itching for something and see the old backpack sitting in the garage. You will feel a need to get out the maps and trail books and start supplying the backpack.

Plan and Prepare well - Then Go!

There are just too many ways you can enjoy backpacking. For the past 58 years I have enjoyed this form of recreation. As a former bush pilot as a young man I enjoyed backpacking and fly packing. Flying in and sleeping under the wing of the airplane. A total guide and resource to backpacking and it's many aspects can be found at my web site http://backpackingsurvivalkit.com. A visit there will give you expert knowledgeable advice and tips for starting and sustaining this wonderful outdoor fun.
